New BOISE STATE DEPARTMENT OF ART faculty to present work at THE  GALLERY AT THE LINEN BUILDING

Exhibit opens First Thursday, Sept. 2; artist reception to be held Sept. 14

Four new Boise State Department of Art professors will present their work this fall at The Gallery at the Linen Building, 1402 W. Grove St. in Downtown Boise's Linen District. The exhibit will run from Thursday, Sept. 2, to Sunday, Oct. 17. The opening will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. during First Thursday. A presentation on the work will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14. Admission to this all-ages event is free. Refreshments will be served. No-host bar (I.D. required) will be available.

Featured faculty are Ryan Mandell, Caroline Earley, Chad Erpelding and Craig Peariso. They will present images and brief overviews about their own areas of research and creative practice. The public is invited to attend, meet the new faculty members, enjoy a reception and welcome them into Boise's creative community.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Ryan Mandell, Sculpture. Ryan earned his MFA in Sculpture from Indiana University and his BFA in Drawing from the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design. Ryan describes his creative research as sculpture that employs scaled down and streamlined versions of existing architectural forms that he either re-contextualizes or re-presents in such a way that the architecture's social influences (or potential for social influence) becomes more evident.

Caroline Earley, Ceramics. Caroline received her BFA from Ohio University and her MFA from the University of Wisconsin. Her practice is grounded in the vessel tradition and incorporates hand, wheel and industrial approaches. She makes individual sculptural and functional pieces as well as installation works, which draw on her interests in science, politics and cultural issues.

Chad Erpelding, Drawing and Painting. Chad Erpelding received his MFA in painting from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. His work addresses globalization through the exploration of systems and how it affects our sense of place.  His work shifts between media, incorporating digital practices with traditional painting techniques. He has exhibited throughout the United States and internationally.

Craig Peariso, Art History. Craig received his Ph.D. in Art History and Criticism and Cultural Studies from the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 2006. His work has been featured in the journal Third Text, as well as in a number of edited volumes. He is currently completing a book-length manuscript on the performance of stereotypes by American protest movements in the late-1960s.
This event is organized by Boise City Department of Arts and History in partnership with Boise State University's College of Arts & Science Advisory Board and BSU Department of Art.

The Boise State University (BSU) Department of Art, which is NASAD accredited and has over 700 majors, boasts a diverse faculty and an active visiting artist program. As part of a metropolitan research university, the mission of the department is to function as a primary emphasis program representing the visual arts disciplines. The new faculty members attracted to the Department of Art are exciting additions to Boise's creative community.
